Part of my philosophy is to see other people’s collections and to get their input once in a while. The first lowest branch on this tree has always bugged me. It looked out of place and was way too thin. I took the tree to a meeting last month and Mike Rogers pointed out that the branch should be removed all together so that the foliage would be more uniformed. After a quick “snip” the branch was off and instant gratification. It was an instantly better tree and has made this tree look so much better. I still need to develop a better top, but this tree is well on it’s way to be a finished tree. I was hoping to submit this tree for Epcot, but with the poor top I need one more year. June 2005

Still trying to thicken that upper trunk. Lots of new growth, so it will just be a few more months. May 2005

Well everyone has been patiently waiting to find out the results of the graft. I am happy to report that ALL grafts have taken and the tree is doing very well. As an added bonus the grafts took so well that both ends of the grafts are putting out leaves. This means that leaves are growing from where the graft went in (not always happens) and where the graft came out of the tree. I’m just going to let this one grow out this year and gain strength. I finally took the time to sort through all the new growth branches. Wasn’t easy but a lot to choose from. As you can see branches are sprouting out in all the right places. I need to clean up the large cut near the top to give it a better taper, but this tree should really take some shape this year. April 2005
