In this picture you can see two very small yellow flowers in the center of the foliage. In the Fall these tree flower, however they should be pulled off as soon as they show because it causes the tree to die back a bit.
In the spring of 2004 I removed about 75% of the branches to grow clippings. This left a very curvy truck that has grown to about 1 1/2″ in such a short period of time. However the tree put out new shoots almost immediately and is back to its bushy self. I’m not certain when I will turn this into a Bonsai, but it is promising to be something very special. This tree came from the closing of Splendid China Theme Park. A very impressive tree with a wonderfully thick trunk. I have defoliated the tree in hopes that it will go dormant and potted it deep in a nursery pot. Next spring should bring this tree to life and next winter it will be ready to be worked on. This tree didn’t cooperate all that well this year. out of the three grafts that I tried only one took. The biggest challenges were the three hurricanes that hit Central Florida. This tree was moved so often and two of the grafts weren’t strong enough to take the handling. In any case you can see in the picture to the right where the thing twig goes in from the left and where the thick graft took at the right side. I will redo the other two grafts this winter. The paste that I used here is available at the Orlando Bonsai Store
