Well it’s always nice to know that you didn’t kill a tree. With major pruning I’m sometimes a little nervous. However with all the new growth on this trident maple, I think I’m safe to assume it’s going to make it. April 2004

April 2004 and the leaves have budded out. As you can see high up on the top branches are the normal Crape Myrtle leaves. Below are the much smaller grafted dwarf crape myrtle leaves. These trees are still joined as the grafts have not taken as of yet. Should not be long though.

It was cut down to a short trunk and allowed to bud out. Crepe myrtle had been shortened dramatically and repotted.
The graft were sealed with this paste
Mike Rogers and I grafted a dwarf crepe myrtle to a crepe myrtle. The branches of the dwarf crape myrtle were thread-grafted through the crepe myrtle.
The dwarf crepe myrtle is shown behind in the white pot.

Spring has come and the ficus has defoliated so that the new leaves can grow. It is a good chance to actually look at the branches and trunk line. I removed a few branches and wire more out. There was a bald area that I was able to cover by moving branches. April 2004.
