Over the Winter I took the advice of the review board for the Ben Oki Awards and shortened the tree. I am happy with the results, however this tree has turned into a real slow grower. So it will take a while to develop the top. Although I think once it has filled in this will be a very nice tree. March 2006

March of 2006, Roy Nagatoshi was touring Florid. He held a workshop at our club and I thought this would be a great to to work on. As you can see the tree was shortened dramatically, but it solved a number of problems for this tree. Many scars we removed and the shape of the tree can finally be determined.

As a side note: When I was sawing this tree to shorten it the saw slipped and cut into my hand. It needed six stitches to close the wound. I’ll never forget the workshop. Mar 2006

This is the expected front of the tree. It really turned an ugly tree into a beautiful trunk! Winter 2006

In the fall the leaves dropped to expose a great network of branches. This tree should be ready to style in the upcoming year. Nov 2005
