HUGE Trident Maple (Purchased from Clif Pottberg Feb 2007) Orlando Bonsai Store |
||
Well what can I say? I just purchased this tree from Clif Pottberg in Dade City. Just to give you some idea of the size of this GLORIOUS tree, it is taking up about the entire bed of my Explorer Sport-Trac. I must say this was one of the most exciting moments in my bonsai life. Look for more about this tree as I begin to work on it through out the years. Feb 2007
Well here she is, in all her glory. The stand that I built with my neighbor (Heath) turned out great. That thing could hold a house. Its a good thing. Because we found the only way to do this was to pot it in place. The pot was prepared and placed on the stand. Some soil was added, then the tree. Then a lot more soil and finally a long watering. Yep, it's not going to be moving anywhere for quite some time. Jan 2008

Well I haven't been very good at taking pictures of this tree this year. However I was able to obtain a bonsai pot to put it in. Since the tree is so big, I needed to find something of similar dimensions to accommodate it. This one fits the bill. It measures 36" L X 28" W X 6" deep. We expect the tree, soil and pot to have a combined weight of over 500 lbs! Now that's a bonsai!!!
I know it looks like an elephant's foot, but that is in fact the nebari of the tree. It measures about 24" around, 6 inches up from the base.
This is a picture of Mike Rogers using a grinder with a chainsaw blade to reduce and sculpt the roots so that it would fit into the pot. [Need a grinder]
Not much change, still huge. Jun 2008 |
