Central Florida is Zone 9a The growing season extends from February until about mid October. Tropical plants can be grown very well in Central Florida, however the must be protected from freezing
DECIDUOUS TREES i.e. Elm, Oak, Maple, Hornbeam, Crape Myrtle, Plum, Cypress Leave these trees on the benches. These trees need cold temperatures to start the natural process of dormancy. It's okay if pots freeze solid.
HARDY EVERGREENS i.e. Japanese and English Boxwood, Pine, Podocarpus, Juniper, Cedar, Azalea, Camellia. Note: Flowers will be damaged by freezing temperatures.
TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL TREES: Protect at 40 degrees and below:
Mangrove Aralia, TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL TREES: Protect at 35 degrees and below:
